Now this cover came out nicely. ^^ Martin had this idea that all the Black Princess covers would have this sort of Magazine tabloid template and just turned out great. The Various blurbs and images work nicely to showcase the chapter in a bunch of interesting ways.
Lot of stuff I like about this cover visually. In particular I like Alex and Laura at the bottom (they're factoring heavily into this chapter, so ya know), the design on that ghost Sareena's talking to, and that Boo. The semi-transparency on that Boo was all Martin's doing but came out great. ^^
Two references in that Misty panel I wanna point out- the psychological treatment gag is a reference to the Mario World comic where Mario gets out of a ghost house by giving Boo therapy to overcome his chronic shyness. The "Red Shroom" graffiti on the wall is a Shining reference (Red Rum) that I was really proud of. Even asked Martin not to cover it up with the logo. ^^
Speaking of graffiti, I threw in the classic "Blu blud" scrawl because I wanted to somehow reference all three comics in the cover. Wright As Rayne is already in there since two principal characters have popped up and I didn't want Blues to feel neglected.
Now this one I'm happy with. Wish I'd gotten to comment on it sooner, but doing so now and quite happy to be doing so.
Yeah, this magazine format is something I've been kicking around since the last cover, and seeing it in action we're definitely keeping it. Really love how it came out.
Also, pretty sure this is the first time I've actually scripted something video game-related with Misty and that's because... Yeah, always been sort of iffy about that idea, admittedly. Mostly just since it seems a little self-fanservicey to have my three protagonists have two comics geeks and a video game nut. Still, Adam and Abe have rolled with the game thing, I don't necessarily dislike the idea, and hey, if nothing else it's an extra something about Misty's personality.
Funny enough, Alex probably wouldn't be a comic geek if not for some stories Adam and I have done with him and Grant. Originally sort of intended Alex to have kind of fallen out of love with the whole superhero thing after becoming the real thing, and he would've kind of rekindled it as the story went. Not much lost there, but worth mentioning.
Wow, great work Adam, you were able to fit in all that content without crowding anything or cluttering the page, cool.
Awww, thanks. ^^ I think it's all that text though- that's easy to cram into places and has the effect of making the cover look a lot busier than it really is.
