And we get a good demonstration of Laura's acting! Shame this is the last time she appears in the chapter; I sort of intended for her to show up again, but I finished the scripts for it a couple of days ago and she doesn't do so. Speaking of, this page marks the one third point of the chapter.
Since this kicks off the stuff inside the daycare, bares mentioning here - I wanted to try and make everything look very bright and sunny. As if the name and his appearance didn't spell it out, the sort of goal with Day is to give him something of a sun motif.
While writing this one and the page after it, among I think one or two others, I had on an Obscurus Lupa episode, thus the name Allison. It's reflected in the next page.
Yeah, really love the sun motif myself; gives you some ideas for the decor and all.... Not a lot to say otherwise, though I really did love drawing Laura as this tough, confident character for a change. "Of course you haven't seen my around before. Could you ever forget a person with my awesomeness?"
And of course the kids are still allowed to be super-cute. Sareena being picked up wasn't in the script, I just sorta threw it in. Thought it was just an added twist of adorableness. ^^
Wait.... This place is run by a criminal syndicate.... Why is Laura, the helpless civilian with no direct protection, the one that's being forced to use her real name? It's bad enough they sorta bully her into these situations but... Wow.
"Sh-Sh-Shouldn't I have a-a-an alias?"
"Nah, it'll be fine! But just to be safe, me, Misty, and Candice are gonna use different last names. We put down your real one. Hope he doesn't bomb your car!"
I feel almost tempted to make that a running gag at this point, they keep putting Laura into insanely undesirable situations and she keeps using her acting skills for revenge.
Laura has protection, Alex is her friend, and they're using her last name because they have to pretend to be related.
Heh, true, if you need protection, there are certainly few friends better to have around than Alex.
