Bonus update on Saturday! We're still a little bit thin on pages, but we're going to be taking a short production break after the chapter ends to move a bit further ahead so we're going to go ahead with it regardless. We'll still be posting content in that time, don't worry. Anyway...
Dun dun DUNNNNNNN! Yeah, the Twilight Minister being behind them honestly isn't supposed to be a twist. Stuff like the three of them standing together in the cast picture and Gwendolyn summoning a reflection of him when talking about their boss, supposed to be a pretty big giveaway. There was kind of a point early on where it was intended to be a twist, but given Abe drew him grinning sinisterly when Nine Eyes showed up without me even indicating their connection in the scripts, figured it was too obvious to bother building it as one. The only reason it's saved for the last panel here like you'd see with a twist is just because it's more dramatic.
Anyway, we can also see that Nine Eyes is way more freaky with the hair thing than it initially looked like. Speaking of, the new look was also kind of set up by Gwendolyn's talk in the last chapter about how he'd been acting particularly deranged lately. Oh, and if you go back and look at 250 and 251, the window in the first page has the Twilight Minister's tattoo thing in it while in the second it has Nine Eyes' weird eye things he summons up in fights.
Incidentally, if Sareena looks weird in that one panel... there's a reason for it, and it's just for that one panel. We'll touch back on that before the chapter ends.
Funny thing, it doesn't really make a difference but in the script I had the last couple of panels taking place in the empty room in the apartment that we've heard about but not seen. We'll probably go there soon but... y'know, it's an empty room, you're not missing much. It's just where Sareena and Misty do any experimental stuff they need done.
Two pages left to go in the chapter, one of which will go up on Saturday. The next chapter is called The Black Princess... On Ice!, for those wondering.
Y'know what's weird? Twilight Minister has one of my favorite designs Abe's ever sent to us. Like, I didn't realize until I drew the guy for this sequence; looks just awesome. ^^ Like, I legitimately had fun drawing his design. I did add some lacy sleeves peeking out under his jacket to make him look more foppish, but think it works.
Nine-Eyes was fun too, of course. I liked the hood coming off especially; not sure if that was in the script or not, but is a pretty neat moment. Odd thing on Nine-Eyes; I know I do things like make the hands and feet too huge in a lot of pictures and I'm trying to reel it in, but with him (and Nicky in Blues), I'm able to get away with leaving them that size. That's always sorta neat.
Also, loved doing Misty's sleeping T-Shirt. ^^ Totally want one.
I've long suspected the Twilight Minister as the owner of that voice and now that conformation has been given I can ask a question regarding their first appearance, the reason he made everybody think they were on a boat instead of inside a building was to keep them from trying to run away, wasn't it? One can flee from a building, but they're trapped on a boat that has set sail and is nowhere near land.
There was that, and it was also a test run of sorts for what he's doing here, by way of seeing how convincing he could make an illusion by trying it on a full crowd. That was also the point of having Nine Eyes attack then, which has been alluded to on occasion in the dialogue, that he was just looking for someone who would suit their needs.
